Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1: Arrival in Jodhpur & City Tour

  • Padharo Mare Des! Your 4 night 5 days Jodhpur Jaisalmer itinerary begins when you set foot in Jodhpur. Your local tour representative will pick you up from the railway station/airport/pre-determined location. On the way to your hotel, you will notice the old-world charm of Jodhpur and the lanes of blue houses. Prepare yourself for a day worth romanticising- historical landmarks, mouthwatering Jodhpuri snacks, and colourful bazaars.
  • Check into your hotel and relax for a bit before you head out for a busy day of sightseeing!
  • The first destination on your itinerary is the Mehrangarh Fort. This massive historical landmark sits on a 400-foot-high rocky hill. It was built by Rao Jodha and was where the Rathore dynasty resided for many centuries. Do not forget to photograph this iconic site.
  • The next stop is Jaswant Thada. This marble memorial was built in 1899 to honour the late and great Jaswant Singh II. Many people call this historical site the “Taj Mahal of Marwar.” It has beautiful gardens and lakes.
  • Next is Umaid Bhawan Palace. This palace was built in 1943 as a famine relief project by Maharaja Umaid Singh. Today, it partially houses Jodhpur’s royal family because a part of it is a heritage hotel. Many famous celebrities celebrate their weddings and other events here.
  • Later, we will move towards the Clock Tower. It is also another famous landmark of Jodhpur. It was built in the late 19th century by Maharaja Sardar Singh.
  • Around the Clock Tower is the Sardar Bazaar. Here, you can shop for popular textiles, spices, and handicrafts.
  • Wrap up the night by going to your hotel for an overnight stay in Jodhpur.

Day 2

Day 2: Jodhpur Sightseeing → Jaisalmer

  • Today, we bid farewell to Jodhpur. But before we leave, we are going to visit some tourist attractions that not many people get the chance to explore. We want to make your trip as personal as possible, so we have the Mandore Gardens and Toorji ka Jhalra to look forward to. From there, we move towards Jaisalmer, the golden city of Rajasthan.
  • Wake up early in the morning because we have a long journey ahead of us. Enjoy a fulfilling breakfast before stopping at locations that are less explored.
  • Firstly, we travel to Toorji ka Jhalra. It is an 18th-century steepwell that once supplied water to the city. Take lots of photos of this historical hidden gem.
  • Afterwards, move to Mandore Gardens. This place was initially the capital of Marwar, ages ago. Cenotaphs and temples are here amongst a beautiful garden.
  • Check out of your current hotel.
  • Now we drive for about 5-6 hours to Jaisalmer. Notice that the colours of the homes are turning from azure blue to a sandy gold.
  • On the way, stop at Kuldhara Village. This place is an abandoned village, where Paliwal-Brahmins once resided. People say that this location is cursed, and the residents of this village had to leave out of fear of oppression. Once they left this ghost town, no one settled there. This mysterious village is filled with ruins, making it excellent for photography.
  • When you enter the Golden City, it is best to check into your hotel first and foremost. Then you can continue sightseeing.
  • Afterwards, stroll the nearby alleyways, alongside the Jaisalmer Fort. You will find colourful bazaars, traditional handicrafts, and authentic Rajasthani spices. Walk along these pathways after a delicious dinner.
  • Now you should head back to your hotel for an overnight stay in Jaisalmer.

Day 3

Day 3: Forts, Havelis & Dunes

  • Today is a very exciting day. You can expect different kinds of adventures. You will explore the inside of Jaisalmer Fort, take photos in merchant havelis, and go on many desert safaris. The day ahead is busy but will keep you entertained at every moment.
  • The day begins with a delicious breakfast before you head out to explore the city.
  • First, we will visit the Jaisalmer Fort. It is also known as the Golden Fort and is one of the last living forts in the world. Here, you will find people residing in the fort along with many small shops. Along with that, there are many Jain temples within the fort. You will be in awe of the brilliant craftsmanship that went into building them.
  • Close to the fort are three very famous havelis. Patwaon ki Haveli was built by wealthy merchants and is known for its magnificent architecture. Next, we have Nathmal ki Haveli. This was built by two brothers, working on opposite ends. However, their halves came together perfectly. Then we have Salim Singh ki Haveli. It happens to be famous for its 38 balconies and peacock-shaped roof.
  • From there, enjoy a traditional Rajasthani lunch or something else of your preference. While you are in the Golden City, you should try Ker Sangri or a Rajasthani thali.
  • This is probably the most exciting part of the 4 night 5 days Jodhpur Jaisalmer itinerary because we will move towards the desert. Now, we drive to Sam Sand Dunes.
  • As the sun sets, enjoy unique desert adventures. Try a camel safari that takes you across the dunes like a true local nomad. To increase the pace, you can go for a jeep ride with dune bashing. Capture as many pictures as possible during these moments. They will become the ones you cherish for a lifetime.
  • Now, it’s time to head towards your desert camp. There, an evening program of Kalbeliya dancing, Manganiyar folk music, and a warm bonfire awaits you.
  • Enjoy gazing at the stars before you fall asleep.

Day 4

Day 4: Tanot Mata Temple & Longewala Excursion

  • Be prepared for a day that is devotional and historical all at the same time. On the same day, you will go from exploring an ancient shrine to one of India’s most revered battlefields. Grab your cameras because today is filled with pleasant surprises.
  • Enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading for a fun day of sightseeing.
  • First on our stop is Tanot Mata Temple. This mandir is 120 km from Jaisalmer. It is close to the Indo-Pak border and is dedicated to the Goddess Tanot. There is a very interesting backstory to why this temple is so famous. During the 1965 Indo-Pak war, thousands of bombs were dropped near the temple, but none of the bombs nearby exploded. Since then, BSF has protected the temple, and many soldiers come to pray here.
  • From Tanot Mata Temple, we will drive to Longewala War Memorial. This historical site is famous for the Battle of Longewala that took place here, back in 1971. This also has an interesting backstory. 120 soldiers had fought against 2,000 Pakistani troops. They managed to stall them until the Indian Air Force came. This memorial is made to celebrate these brave soldiers. You can find the preserved tanks, bunkers, and weaponry from the war. A fun fact is that the film “Border” was made to depict the Battle of Longewala.
  • Now it is time to head back to your hotel for an overnight stay in Jaisalmer.

Day 5

Day 5: Jaisalmer Sightseeing → Departure

  • The last day of this trip is here, but it is no less exciting than the others. Today, we move at a slower pace but create great memories along the way. You will experience peaceful boat rides in Gadisar Lake and visit the well-renowned Bada Bagh.
  • Begin the day with Gadisar Lake. This is a man-made reservoir that was built to supply water to the city. It was once Jaisalmer’s lifeline. Today, tourists from all over come to visit the peaceful lake.
  • The lakefront has shrines, temples, and beautiful gateways. Many families and couples enjoy spending time on the ghat and strolling the peaceful lakeside. Apart from that, they go on short boat rides on the lake.
  • Next, we move to Bada Bagh. These royal cenotaphs were built by Maharaj Jai Singh II as a cremation ground for the Bhatti rulers of Jaisalmer. Photographers love the scenery and beauty of this location.
  • Go to popular marketplaces before you leave Jaisalmer. Visit Pansari Bazaar and Sadar Bazaar for souvenirs. Shop mirror-embroidered textiles and royal carpets. Purchase traditional handicrafts, flavoursome spices, and more.
  • Check out of your hotel.
  • We will now drop you off at the railway station/airport. And look forward to you coming back to Jaisalmer soon.
