Overview

Jaisalmer is also known as the “Golden City” and is one of India's most popular tourist destinations. It has one of the last living forts in the world, which towers over narrow streets and stone-carved havelis. This Sam Sand Dunes package draws together the fort’s timeless charm and the wild beauty of the Thar Desert.

Across three days, you explore palaces and mansions, sit by quiet lakeside ghats, and end your evenings under a sky scattered with stars. The plan balances history with adventure: a fort tour, a desert camp, and a sunrise over the dunes. Families will find it easy to manage, couples will enjoy its atmosphere, and solo travellers will appreciate its blend of people and places.

Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1: Arrival & City Tour

  • As you step into Jaisalmer, you are greeted by the warmth of Rajasthani hospitality, the aroma of spices, and beautiful sights in every direction. On the first day, you will visit the most famous landmark of the city- Jaisalmer fort. A UNESCO World Heritage site and a living neighborhood, this site will keep you entertained for the majority of the day. As you explore the city further, you will come across massive havelis, which house the stories of merchants who once traded across desert routes.
  • Begin your tour with a visit to Jaisalmer Fort. It was built by Rawal Jaisal in 1156. To date, it is a living fort, with temples, homes, cafes, and markets within the wall premises.
  • Then, move to Raj Mahal, a royal palace inside the Golden Fort. Here, you can view the city and the desert at large. This is the perfect place to take aesthetic photos for Instagram. The halls of this palace are made of stone latticework and have painted arches. The design and architecture showcase the incredible Rajputi skill and creativity.
  • Next, head to the Jain Temples inside the fort. There is a group of twelve shrines that will leave you in awe. The carvings on the temples are crafted with unmatched attention to detail. It is a beautiful place of devotion and architectural excellence.
  • After lunch, go out to visit the havelis, which are popular attractions in Jaisalmer. The biggest of them is Patwon ki Haveli, a construction of a rich merchant family, whose sequence of courtyards and facades is cut in lace patterns. Nathmal ki Haveli is also a treat to architects. The peacock-shaped arched roof of Salim Singh ki Haveli makes an excellent backdrop for photos.
  • In the evening, go to the bustling bazaars of Jaisalmer to shop for intriguing artifacts, meenakari jewellery, hand-painted textiles, and more.
  • Head back to your hotel for an overnight stay in Jaisalmer.

Day 2

Day 2: Sam Sand Dunes & Desert Camp Stay

  • The second day takes you out of the city and into the heart of the Thar Desert. The drive itself sets the mood, with villages, stepwells, and camel rides during sunset. The evening belongs to the desert camp—music, dance, and an unforgettable night sky.
  • The morning starts slowly. After breakfast, you travel to the Sam Sand Dunes, about 40 km away. Along the way, you see daily desert life: women drawing water from stepwells, herders with goats, and more.
  • The Jaisalmer Sam Sand Dunes package is all about adventure, and this is the core of the package. There is no better way to explore the sands than a jeep safari: the ride will go over the hills, drop into the valleys, and provide a panoramic perspective of the horizon of the desert.
  • Visitors who are willing to go a little further can experience sand dune bashing. Those who want to enjoy a more leisurely time could go on a camel ride and enjoy the quiet of the desert.
  • At night, you arrive at your camp. The tents are spacious, with individual washrooms and bedding. There is an evening program around a bonfire, with traditional Rajasthani folk music and Kalbelia dances. Dinner is held out in the open air and usually includes Rajasthani cuisine and desserts.
  • Late at night, gaze at the stare with a warm beverage in your hand and covered with warm blankets.

Day 3

Day 3: Gadisar Lake → Departure

  • Get up early to watch the desert at sunrise. The sand is cool to the feet, and the air is slightly chilly, almost damp. Most travellers refer to this moment as the best part of their Jaisalmer desert camp package, not because it is thrilling but because it is quite peaceful.
  • You will head back to Jaisalmer city after having breakfast at the camp. However, on the route, you will visit Gadisar Lake, which used to be the primary source of water in the city. Its serene waters, ghats, and shrines make it a peaceful place to take a stroll. Here, migratory birds can be found in large numbers.
  • You can even take a walk around the local small crafts shops to get some souvenirs, so long as you have time.
  • Lastly, you will be transferred to the railway station/airport for your onward journey.

Why Choose this Sam Sand Dunes Package?

There is much more than a list of places to visit in this Jaisalmer Sam Sand Dunes package. It is a carefully planned journey that blends the heritage of the golden city and the beauty of the Thar Desert. You will witness the history of Jaisalmer Fort and grand havelis, enjoy the serenity of Gadisar Lake, and have an unforgettable night stargazing on Sam Sand Dunes. Ease of a city stay combined with the excitement of a luxury desert camp, this is an experience that is to be enjoyed by families, couples, small groups, as well as solo travellers. It is a trip of culture, adventure, and relaxation that will stay in your heart forever.
